Way back, Amy Raley was an independent contractor for the Miss Hawaiian Tropic promotions held by the skin care company based out of Daytona Beach, Florida.  This was during the rise of MTV and Spring Break and the company felt this was the best way to get attention for their products, which it did!  Ron Rice the owner of the company was a self taught genius in gorilla marketing, and rode that wave and coined the phrase.  This was way before most people had an email address and cell phones were a new thing.

Lots of amazing celebrity events later, Hawaiian Tropic decided to sell the brand and the promotion was shelved.  Amy had been doing this work for over 20 years and knew that there was still a lot of interest in this business activation, so she created the Tropic Beauty Brand and Model Search, which in itself has had a metamorphosis.  The search for young women who want to have a chance to be discovered is really the same catalyst, but now with social media we can combine forces with the models and the clients and give so many people so much more opportunity.
